Policy decisions shape everything—from housing and healthcare to climate, education and justice. But too often, the people with the best ideas are left out of the rooms where those decisions get made. This training is designed to change that.

About the event

Policy decisions shape almost everything—housing, healthcare, education, climate, justice—but too often, the people with the best ideas are locked out of the process.

This two-day course is designed to change that.

Whether you're a student, early-career professional, or working in advocacy or community organising, this crash course will show you how ideas move through Australia’s policy system—and how you can shape the conversations that matter.

Across four sessions led by FORE Australia, you’ll learn how decisions get made, how to package and pitch policy ideas, and how to build influence in the rooms where change happens. You'll leave with practical tools, templates, and a new network of like-minded policy thinkers and doers.

This course is ideal for:

  • Students studying public policy, law, health, or related disciplines

FORE Australia would like to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land we live, learn, and work on.

We value their cultures, identities, and continuing connection to country, waters, kin, and community. We pay our respects to Elders, both past and present, and are committed to supporting the next generation of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

As an organisation dedicated to amplifying solutions, we recognise that First Nations peoples have long identified many of the pathways for environmental protection and meeting community needs. Our role is to listen, support, and amplify these voices.
